Voting open in Saab’s US Facebook competition

January 11, 2011 in Saabology

Saab Cars North America are running a competition on Facebook (too late to enter, but at least you can see what it was about at that link). People were asked to make a video showing their Scandinavian spirit. The winners, to be chosen by a public vote, will win a trip to the Ice Hotel in northern Sweden.

I wish I could tell you more about how this competition has progressed, but I can’t even see it.

The competition is only visible to US users of Facebook, so I can’t show you any of the entries, nor can I tell you how many there were. And you? Unless you’re in the US, you can’t enjoy them either.

I can tell you, however, that a recent Saab buyer has submitted an entry and has been selected as a finalist. Eric B in Denver was pretty excited about it, too. First he picks up a new 9-5 (at a bargain price, I might add) and now he’s a candidate for a trip to the Ice Hotel.

It’s been a very Saaby couple of months for him!

——

If you’re in the US, you can click here to view the final eight videos and cast your vote. Maybe you can come back and tell the rest of us what they were like, too.

Saab Christmas wishes from Facebook fans

December 21, 2010 in Saabology

Over at the Saab Newsroom, they’ve taken the 3,000 Facebook photos that fans have loaded up and created a Christmas mosaic for people to enjoy.

OK, so there’s not much detail there, but visit the larger version and there’s much more to see…..

These are all images set up by fans of Saab on their Facebook page. If you haven’t given it the official thumbs up yet, you might want to check it out.

If you’ve submitted an image, your task is to find it!

:-)

Thx “Me”

Wednesday Snippets – Sonett love edition

December 8, 2010 in Saabology

Saab Cars, the official presence of Saab on Facebook, posted a picture and question earlier today.

Which Saab model is your all time favorite? And what’s the feature making it so special?

As you might expect, there were lots of references to the Saab 900 in comments (and a good number for the 99 Turbo, too, which was very pleasing).

What surprised me a little, though, was that out of 385 responses received, not one person gave the Sonett their ‘most loved’ status. That’s not to say that I would have either (99T or Viggen for me) but I would have thought that someone would be showing their love for the Sonett out of that many responses.

Peter DeLorenzo pours some cold water on the idea of any car company advertising during the Superbowl.

He lists eight car companies that are signed up so far – Audi, BMW, Chevrolet, Chrysler, Hyundai, Kia, Mercedes-Benz and Volkswagen – and a cost of around $4million for doing so.

——

Saabs United brought you the first information about Saab 9-4x pricing in mid-November. It was announced then that the base model would sell for $34,200.

A short time later, news came that the 9-4x Aero pricing would come in at a benjamin+change under $49K.

News has started circulating the interwebs about pricing for other models within the Saab 9-4x range.

Saab 9-4x Base – $34,205
Saab 9-4X Premium – $38,075

There are FWD and XWD variants with both of those models. The prices listed there are presumably for the FWD versions.

Saab 9-4x Aero is XWD only, at $48,835

These figures are for the US market and include delivery. They appear not in a press release, but on Autoblog. And yes, this is a mild irritant.

If I have a choice, I’ll take the bottom half of the Popular Colors paint chart, thanks.

I know stuff looks good in silver (and black), but still…..50% of cars globally for those two colors?

Saab want to hear from Saab Car Clubs

October 21, 2010 in Saabology

Saab put out a call via their Newsroom and Facebook websites today in an effort to link up with more Saab Car Clubs around the world.

Saab on Facebook

Saab’s official Facebook page has a special section set aside for Saab Car Clubs, where you can have your club listed AND post notices about events coming up in the future.

Right now, they have 48 Saab Car Clubs listed but we all know there’s more than that out there. If you’re part of an unlisted club, or even a website community, then you can have your Club listed on the site, complete with website and contact details.

If you’ve got an event coming up, you can have details of that event listed on the site too. It’s good to see what’s going on in other parts of the world and you might even attract a couple of extra people along as well.

It’s great to see Saab taking steps to cater to people via Social Media. The next step is for clubs and individuals to get on board and make use of it!

New Saab app on Facebook.

May 20, 2010 in Saabology

The Saab Cars Official facebook page has a new app on it – How Big a Saab Fan Are You?

The app will analyse your postings and formulate how big a Saab fan you are based on your content. You then get to create a groovy picture with a few mix and match options available.

I don’t have many pictures of myself on Facebook, so I let Charli take the honors :-)

Kroum + Saab = mutual appreciation

March 10, 2010 in Saabology

I mentioned yesterday that I had a story to share about the Saab Cars Official page on Facebook. Here it is….
Some of you may not know that the Saab Cars page on Facebook wasn’t actually started by Saab. It was actually set up by one of our regulars here at SU. A Turbo-X owning guy in Canada that we all know as Kroum.
Kroum works on the web for a living, so when this new Facebook fanpage thingy came out a few years ago, he did as instinct told him and started a Saab Cars page. The page grew over time and Kroum updated it with the occasional bit of Saab news. Eventually, the page grew to have over 12,000 fans, at which time Kroum figured he’d best do something with it.
Kroum got in touch with me. I got in touch with Saab and then Saab got in touch with him. Kroum handed over the page to their control late last year and it’s been in the possession of Saab ever since.
It’s continued to grow, too. Saab merged the page with the one they’d set up themselves and since they’ve had plenty of recent attention and gained a new owner, there are more that 25,000 fans!
——
Kroum emailed me a few weeks ago to tell me about he package he received in the mail.

Just wanted to share with you what I got in the mail today – an appreciation certificate from Saab about the Facebook page I created. It’s a nice big print framed in a – you guessed it – Ikea frame. It’s a really nice gesture.

Very cool!

Feedback time: Saab online

December 16, 2009 in Saabology

An article appeared in a Swedish computer magazine in the last few days, talking about Saab’s increased efforts in cyberspace, particularly with regard to social media.
The publication is called IDG.se and the article appears here.
The following are some Googletrans snippets:
——

When the recent crisis was at its worst, Saab responded to the negative press with openness instead of silence. In just six months, Saab has established itself through Facebook, Twitter and Youtube and they have reached people they have never had contact with before.
A turbulent year for Saab Automobile has put enormous demands on management. There were national headlines in the media and negative rumors that the company suddenly faced a crossroads.
- We had two choices: to refuse to say anything and ignore all the negative press and to dare to take the step to become more transparent. We made a conscious choice to become more open and focus on brand building” says Johan Grundin, director of interactive marketing at Saab.
It was the start of Saab’s commitment to social media…….

They go on to speak about the presence that’s been built up, particularly with the Saab Newsroom.
Then there’s a little bit about the future:

The next big step will be to get to grips with what is said on the Web and do their own material on it.
- When the magazine Auto Motor Sport, for example, do an in-depth story on the new Saab 9-5, we can follow up the story on our website by, for example, video interviews with the developers behind the product. We will work much more quickly to pick up current issues and make our own materials based on it,” he says.
He stresses the importance of the business running quickly and not missing any chances when it comes to social media…..
….The only risk he sees is not having enough resources to be involved enough in the channels.

This is really good news and whilst I haven’t written about it for a while, those of you who go back to the Trollhattan Saab days of this website might recall that I’ve encouraged this for a long time.
There is so much of the Saab story that hasn’t been told and one of the things that’s a great hook for people is an interesting history. I know it hooked me in.
I’m very encouraged to hear that Saab are taking this medium, and the possibility of interacting more with their customers, so seriously. It really does have massive possibilities for building interest and loyalty.
——
I guess the big question now is…..
How do you find contact with Saab is working out? Do you frequent the various outlets they use, such as Facebook, Twitter, Youtube, the Newsroom? Is there anything happening with the Widget?
What do you use most and how do you find it works for you?
I’m sure there are several sets of eyes in Trollhattan who’d like to know.
——
Thanks to Hampus the young bloke!

Join The Saab Movement on Facebook

March 5, 2009 in Archive

I think I may have featured this when it was first created, or another support group on Facebook, but what the heck.
The Saab Movement is another group formed with the noble goal of demostrating Saab support. If you’re a friend of Trollhattan Saab on Facebook then you may have just received an invitation from me to join (I could only send 60 invites at a time, so I’m not snubbing you if you didn’t get one).
Saab Museum curator Peter Backstrom is pretty active on there, posting a few videos and acting as a recruiter.
There’s around 615 members in the group at the moment, with a goal of over 750. If you’re on Facebook (what sort of question is that????) then click here to join up.
Thanks to WooDz for the reminder!
——
Oh, and if you’re name’s Paul and you recently friended me on Facebook, I hit ‘Ignore’ by mistake. Please re-send.
Sorry.
