Official North American Launch of Saab 9-5 July 27 (tomorrow)

Well, it’s finally here. A moment that we’ve all anticipated for months: the formal introduction of the new Saab 9-5 to North America. I expect a huge amount of media fanfare, particularly in the automotive press, but I’ll go out on a limb and predict that a fair number of financial media outlets will watch closely, too. The Saab saga is simply too juicy to ignore. A forgotten and neglected division of a corporate titan is abandoned and liquidated, alternately fought over and scorned, and then rises on a wave of enthusiasm and optimism lead by an unlikely hero from the Netherlands. To paraphrase a recent movie title, “There will be buzz”.

The launch is officially scheduled for Tuesday, July 27th 8:30AM-9:30AM EDT / 3:30PM-4:30PM CET.

Thanks to the efforts of the fine folks at Saab Cars North America, we are all able to listen in via the web. Please register here if you are interested in attending the event via the webcast.

I will be listening to the replay in the afternoon or evening afterward due to a schedule conflict (I have to work, you know!).   I invite your comments on the webcast and the event under this post.  The official press release is after the jump.

Saab Launches All-New 9-5 Sedan in New York; Company Executives Outline Plans of a New Era For Saab
Tuesday, July 27th    8:30AM-9:30AM ET / 3:30PM-4:30PM CET

On behalf of Saab Cars North America, you are cordially invited to attend a live webcast presentation of Saab´s Press Conference from the Scandinavian House in New York City.

In February 2010, Spyker Cars N.V. of the Netherlands, acquired Saab Automobile AB from GM as an independently-run business. The 9-5 Sedan will be the first all-new vehicle since the sale of Saab to Spyker Cars.

The live webcast will feature presentations from Victor Muller, Chairman, Saab Automobile AB & CEO of Spyker Cars N.V, and Jan Ake Jonsson, CEO of Saab Automobile AB, about Saab´s transition to Spyker Cars N.V. The presentations will also outline Saab’s new business strategy including Saab’s new product portfolio and openness to share its engineering expertise.

The all new Saab 9-5 sedan signals the start of a new era for the Saab brand. Sleek, sophisticated and unmistakably Saab, it combines stand-out looks with advanced technologies and brings a fresh alternative choice to the premium sedan segment.

Saab cars reflect the brand´s unique Scandinavian design ethic, which is fused with its aircraft engineering heritage. The company is a global premium car maker with a distinguished history of innovation. It is recognized for its pioneering role in turbocharging, as well as occupant safety and the introduction of flex-fuel technology through Saab BioPower. Saab Automobile AB currently employs approximately 3,500 staff in Sweden, where it operates world-class production and technical development facilities at its headquarters in Trollhättan, 70 km north of Gothenburg. Saab Cars North America is headquartered in Royal Oak, Michigan with 45 employees.

Registered participants will have an opportunity to submit questions online during the Q&A session.
