Niclas L just received this in the mail and thought he’d snap a few pictures and send them through to share.
It’s in Swedish, and for bandwidth reasons I’ve had to compress it a fair bit, but it’s good to at least see the composition and imagery they’re using for it.
As with all the other Saab 9-5SC efforts we’ve seen, this looks great.

Looks like the hatch is integrated with the bumper. It will be interesting to see what the US version looks like (per the mule we saw last week).
It looks like a work of art.
Hurrah! Note the conspicuously missing struts on the hatch! Just like the 9-3, the 9-5 SC engineers have managed to out design Audi and BMW yet again.
Would you care to clarify what you mean by that?
Sure. Most rear hatches are held open by 2 external hydraulic struts. In the 9-3 SC and now the 9-5 SC, engineers eliminated the external struts from the hatch (just as they did from the CTS wagon). I don’t really know how it works, but I suspect there is some kind of strut or counter weight hidden behind the headliner. Both Audi and BMW still use these external struts on their lift gates. I love the clean, uncluttered, unobstructed opening on the NG9-5 SC.
There are pros and cons for the hydraulic struts. The main con, at least for me, is that old hydraulic struts don’t work well in the cold anymore. Anyone being hit in the head by a Saab hatch knows what I mean. The biggest pro, though, is that they can be replaced easily for very little money, since they just pop off. Any internal structures that fail can mean a lot of labor cost to replace or fix them.
I have the same kind of objections to electrically operated hatches and doors, they will fail at a certain point and will cost a lot to repair. Btw, opening doors and hatches is a nice workout, please do away with all the obesity inducing gadgetry!
(exception for electrically operated windows, they are a safety feature because you don’t have to crank down the window while driving anymore)
That rear compartment certainly looks like a nice place to have a nap.
I’m in LOVE…….!!!!!!!
The car looks freaking FANTASTIC!!!!!!
Keep on SAABing!!!!
It kind of has an SUV look to it, very familiar looks with the 9-4x:) I could only imagine what a 9-5x would look like… I think I may actually like the Sport Combi 9-5 better than the Sedan, what a great looking car to say the least
Anyone have the measures how the NG boot/trunk compares to the OG wagon?
Have you seen the new NG9-5 film ad:
