More photos and video from Geneva 2011

Well, let’s start with the fun stuff, shall we?

From Swisstroll, we have our inimitable host, Swade, along with Jason Castriota and Golfhunter.  Looks like they’re having a good time!!

I laughed out loud at the photo from Golfhunter. It’s certainly not the Saab 9-5, which I may add, looks absolutely magnificent in this color — Java Brown. Can you guess why I laughed?

That’s right! I chuckled at this picture because one can clearly see the Opel and the Subaru logo and banner, respectively. They both had a shot at being closely related to Saab, and neither was able to make it work. There, right in front of them, is this gleaming 9-5, full of potential and energy. I guess that you could call it schadenfreude. (Of course, Subaru is on a roll of their own, but it’s still an odd juxtaposition.)

In another bit of fun at someone else’s expense, check out the write up over at Autoblog on the Chris Bangle/Jason Castriota confrontation as noted in these pages yesterday. Hint: one of the designers was called out for “hassling” the other. I’ll let you be the judge.

We’ll wrap up with a one-minute long review of the new Saab 9-5 as posted by MotorsTV France.   Good capture.

Well, it turned out that it was all fun stuff. Who knew? 😉

  1. Great wrap up, nice way to tie it all together. I love seeing all these brands crammed so close to each other, in often awkward arrangements. Very funny.

  2. That writeup over at Autoblog contains Swade’s walking tour of the PhoeniX with Jason! I predicted in comments yesterday that this Youtube video would make it to other sites given the valuable information Jason provided.

    • Swade’s coverage has actually been the best out of any site at Geneva I’ve noticed. Granted it’s been very narrow, but the depth and access he has is unlike any other press outlet I’ve ever seen. I really genuinely hope that you stay on here at least semi-full time Swade- this is simply one of the best car sites on the planet because of you.

  3. After watching the JC’s walkthrough of the PhoeniX, I’m now hoping Saab builds it as a halo car. Make the wings optional; as an efficiency nut I love them but others may prefer a more conventional line.

      • I was tempted to comment on that photo at first, but hesitated since I don’t want to step on anyone’s toes. Now that that line’s been crossed already, I’ll just piggyback on you and go ahead with my original thoughts:

“if Swade were to donate a chunk of himself to Golfhunter, that picture would be way better balanced”

        😛

        • I disagree 🙂 One of the great things being a Saaber is that we don’t all have to look like Agent Smith (The Matrix), unlike owners of “some” other car brands. No Russian Dolls remember 😉

  4. 9-5 SportCombi is FANTASTIC. Felt like I was actually there walking around it!
Can’t WAIT to see it for real.
    Well done Gents. Great work.

  5. Terrific work Swade, Red J, Eggs, Jeff P and others who has contributed to this GREAT Geneva coverage!
I truly enjoyed it and has been hitting the refresh button like crazy the last couple of days.

    Thank you very much!

  6. Great work gents! Thanks for bringing the show right to us!

By the way, and on a separate note, Bangle is a pompous and discourteous arse for behaving that way. JC handled it rather well!

  7. Thanks to you all for the work with Geneva. Great Work!

I got a question about the 9-5 SC,

In the Sedan model, i cant sit upright in the backseat, im 192cm long. I’ve heard the roof being raised with 10-15mm, but i dont think thats enough..

Anyone got any information about that? Will there be room for a guy like me in the backseat?
