If you have information about sales data in any market, this is the place to post it. I will try to update this post on a regular basis.

I don’t know much about the Irish market, but it seems like people are buying Saabs again.
Netherlands 105 Saabs (vs 46 in mar-2010)
The split has yet to come through.
OK if closer to the end of the year SAAB won’t reach numbers they want, i will fix insurance and start crashing my Saabs everyday and order new.
Wonderful news, this months sales so far. I really enjoy watching these numbers, as I´m getting my all new 9-3 XWD SC next week. Keep up yhe good work!
This is great news, and just the beginning!
At least DI is reporting a positive story on the sales numbers!

A big boost for Saab
Off-topic, but Teknikens värld is pulling an interesting April’s fools joke today:
http://www.teknikensvarld.se/nyheter/110401-saab-nojespark/index.xml
A “Saab amusement-park” i to be built in Trollhättan, by unknown Russian financiers. Like Ferrari world. Seems a little suspicious taking today’s date into consideration, but a fun thought non the less 🙂
ssssssh
Really nice numbers! I love this time of month when all the numbers come. Lets hope we will see more good figures the coming days. Interesting to see GB numbers, march is a strong month over there. Go SAAB!
The UK figures will be released on the 6th of April.
Not to spoil the fun, but we only know about less than 2000 cars being sold. How many more markets are there? Even if the UK manages to sell about 900 cars like Sweden and the US, that’ll still only be less than 3000 cars. 3000 * 12= 36 000.
A far cry from 80 000 or even Antonovs 60 000!
Hogge
In March 2010 Saab UK sold 1158 vehicles, I would be surprised if they did not exceed this figurein 2011 as the low Co2 93 has been advertised for a few months before Xmas and people are making purchases based on those adverts now.
Who knows we will see.
Bazzer
Hogge,
following 21 markets from Saab, and knowing that the rest is only about 5% of the total sales the current prognosis for March is about 3000 cars, but this prognosis don’t take into account, that the March is a strong month in the UK, so it could also be 4.000 cars.
Yes, Saab is still far away from that 80.000, but not that far away from Antonov’s 60.000.
My bet is still somewhere in the region of 65.000.
Red J
Wasn’t the 80000 number for next year? I didn’t think they had said 80,000 for this year 2011.
They had previously said 80,000 this year 120,000 next year, but in the most recent report they only said said they were confident the increasing sales momentum of 2010 would “continue to build throughout 2011 and 2012.”
80.000 in 2011
120.000 in 2012
but the only important thing,is that they have enough capital to still be here on 2013, with a complete portfolio. 😉
And if the 9-4X sells even 25% what the SRX does Saab will be easily over the 60k mark.
On the Canada numbers side of things, we really didn’t have great programs until today. April will be a telling month for Canada as we now how some deals in place that make our cash purchases very attractive and will hopefully kill the illusion of better prices south of the border. If you want to know whats being offered, check out the specials on the Springman’s Saab facebook page and I will be updating our webpage shortly as well.
SCNA. The NA means North America. Let Canadians know Ssab is here.
Norway: 76 Saabs sold, 17 9-5s and 59 9-3s. Sales in Norway are at a record high with a 12,3% increase over March last year.
As you say, in spain:
In Spain the car market did go down by 29% from March to March, thus a decrease by 12.5% is still kind of OK on those circumstances.
And, in spain, Jan-Mar car market, was –27,3, and Saab was +15,4

I think 9-4X and 9-5 sportscombi will boost the sales. We also got the 9-3 combi <120g coming soon.
I just ordered today my 9-5 Aero BioPower SportCombi with Hirsch Tuning. I can’t wait for September. BTW in Switzerland they have a CHF 5’200 rebate for ordering SportCombis before August 31st. So everyone in Switzerland should certainly think about it. I got a great deal and I’m really happy. So please SAAB keep up the good work and sell as much as you can 😉
Congrats to your decision to order Juerg!
I lived in CH fo 10 years and was impressed by the Saab dealers and especially the offered service. My Saab Master Tech was brilliant, very knowledgeable and service minded. If I’d be living in Switzerland, I would definitely seriously consider the current offer…
So far so good and I should have been satiesfied – if not for the last week. But peoples mind are short let´s hope for that and that the positive trend will continue in april.
Aren’t the 9-5 numbers for Spain both “up”? It says “down”, but the numbers show “up”.
Yes, you are right.
Sorry. 🙁
The Griffin started in production line last week, and the order books open for the 9-5SC in April. Sales will continue to rise. If they can’t keep the evil press stories away. Bad press, bad press.
I like this spreadsheet, which shows the percentage gains Saab made here in US in March, very good…they need the 9-4x and 9-5 SC ASAP!! 🙂

Hi Jason,
I think we don’t have a final format for the presentation of sales data. If people, like you, tell us what they like, and what they don’t, we can adapt to the wishes.
Maybe next time.
cool. I do think it should be colorful and visually appealing, and for me the # of sales are important, but I think equally important is the percentage change from year to year or month to month – it really illustrates the progress Saab is making having to come from the bad shape that it was in. 🙂
Don’t expect too much 😉
BTW, I’m already offering all the data you want, at least indirectly 😛
Really curious as to why the 9-5 is selling so poorly in the US. I think Saab needs to promote the Turbo4’s fuel economy more. 33 MPG for a car that size and in that class is pretty impressive, especially with respectable performance (even if it’s only for the manual and most cars sold are automatics). I’m certain diehard enthusiasts in the 9-5 market are holding out for the SportCombi, but that’s only going to provide a blip for overall sales.
I don’t know if Finland has been mentioned here: total sales for 03/2011: 69. YTD: 166 (50 of 166 were company cars). There were 199 sold Saabs in Finland in 2010.
Marco,
thank you for the Finnish data.
I’ve found this on the net, but the march values still aren’t on-line.
This is an honest rant and may not be a typical situation either nationwide of globally, it is my experience at my local dealership. I am on SAAB number 18 now with being a SAAB customer now since 1980 with 17 of the 18 being bought new 16 from my local UK dealership. I have 3 of the 18 cars at this time. Out of all the 17 new SAAB’s not one single purchase was made as a result of the dealer contacting me with an offer, deal or even just a simple enquiry to determine if I was interested… Read more »
Is this really true, I can´t believe that! You are a “gold customer” and they don´t even bother to lubricate (smörja) you! What are they thinking!
100% true Tomas……….Can’t imagine that any customer of any other brand would stay the course for this kind of service. I don’t want to get bombarded by sales enquiries but some kind of ‘value add’ would assist.
Speaks volumes for the brand that I remain attached.
I don’t like what I see from SAAB in Canada at all. Firstly, there is no SAAB Canada website, this has been in the works for over a year now still nothing. The dealership in Calgary has about 4 SAABs in stock and the dealership shares half of the store with a used car dealership, hardly looks professional. I’m not spending $40,000 + on that kind of a set up. To me it doesn’t look like they want to make this run, its half a** project sorry to say. I think the money issues are still plaguing SAAB and until… Read more »
the dealership shares half of the store with a used car dealership Is the used car dealership not just part of the Saab dealership? We’re a Saab dealer in BC and at the same time we of coarse have used vehicles, that’s a way of life in the car business. Maybe I’m misunderstanding you. In addition to used cars though, I have 15 Saabs in stock right now and have 4 in my showroom as well as 11 on the lot ready to drive. The website issue is one that is constantly coming up and I really hope it’s done… Read more »
Speaking about Norway. Looks like finally selling the Turbo 6 Aero equipped 9-5 after several months for sale, has given the same dealer reason to add another one to the lot in Stavanger, Norway. http://www.finn.no/finn/car/used/object?finnkode=27695880
This car is on the market for NOK 1.151.000 or €147.300 / $209.700
This is really good news…Saab is walking and will soon be running. I think tenacity, determination and hard work will see us through. As Alistair said the relationship between customers and dealerships ist very important and there is more work to be done there.
Has anyone added all the numbers up? The March total, thank you 🙂
Hi,
there are too many markets without march figures, don’t expect to get total figures before the next week-end.
Thanks. If UK is as positive as other markets have been then we might be in for a nice figure altogether.
Netherlands model split:
Saab 9-3 – 74 (43)
Saab 9-5 – 31 (3)
In brackets March-2010
Still got a long long way to go to record sales numbers like 3322 in 2006 or even 4360 in 2000. But NL is slowly getting there…
tha saab 9-3 sales good right now but its gona drop later this year i think so the 9-5 must sell much better
Why would the 9-3 become less popular later this year?
because its rather old in many eyes and other comanys slip out new models like volvo s60 and hundai i40 ..Thats what im thinking hope i am wrong
Fair enough, but the Griffin is more appealing than the old 9-3. The 9-3 is more spacious than the Volvo, and people going for the i40 would never think of Saab as an option.
You would never know the above fact (Saab being more spacious) if you looked at Saab advertising alone… The reviewers apparently aren’t informed of that in the press briefings and materials they are getting either, as 99% of them copy whatever they got, travestising it and adding some sarcastic comments to comply with their ideal of journalism while wasting minimum time. So if you don’t read of some advantageous fact about a Saab car it is only because Saab forgot to tell the journalists about it. Saab is very good at advertising discounts and rebates though… Seems like the GM… Read more »
janke: The V50 that the V60 replaces, is… Broken by design. As I have mentioned a few times here, I drove a V50 for 1000+ km in January. It was a horrible experience. This vehicle was nervous on the ice and refused to move ahead when it encountered 5 cm of snow-slush. The good ol’ 9000 had no problems. The 9000 cost me 18000 SEK + new tyres a year ago. Leather seats, spacious inside and lots and lots of power (200 bhp+). The V50 is a joke. Vi Bilägare had published a review a month ago where they commented… Read more »
I can see bymyself in the street many people bying the new volvo its very popular here in sweden. Many dont like the design but the car sells well anyway because of good repetation and people olso often by what their nabours by….
Yes, people are lazy.
And there is an incredible amount of people in Sweden buying cars that are listed as ‘unsafe’/’avoid’ in Folksam’s reports.
This situation is not helped by car journalists who refuse to test cars when the roads are not completely bare. (some notable exceptions exists, but the majority of tests seems to be conducted somewhere sunny, no?)
Hype and fashion sells. A good quality product is not enough. 🙁
I think one reason for people buying the V60 is because it’s a “new” combi from Volvo. They are used to the Volvo, and continue to buy it. If you also look at the numbers for Swedish sales in March you can see a decline in numbers for the V70, and I guess that the main competitor for the V70 is actually the V60. This is for me one good reason for Saab to get the SC out there ASAP. And regarding the 9-3.. well.. the design is good, but it isn’t not as “new” as the V60-design.. and sometimes… Read more »
@Rune – Volvo started playing with FWD in the 80s, with the 480 in 1986 as the first result, coming from the Volvo development department in… Netherlands. (rooting from DAF)
I’m not buying a S60 again. Steering to diffuse and design to bland for my taste. With S60II they tried to make the front cool my it ended up looking like a crocodile. Not for me. Better chances with customers looking for comfy/swaying ride a la U.S. cars.
March not so bad!
Twelve out of around 50 markets has reported a combined sales of 2 404 cars. We are expecting seasonal strong figures from the UK and other markets with some volume that have not yet been reported includes Germany, Belgium and France. We could expect sales of around 1 800 cars in the UK, and around 800 cars from the rest of the markets not reported. That sums up to around 5 000 cars in March globally. The figures for April and May should be even better.
I didn’t realise that Italy was such a large market for Saab. How many cars did Saab sell during the second half of last year?
Saab retail sales second half of 2010:
Italy – 314
World – 17792
The figures are in other words very good for Italy.
March – 148
Q1 – 384
Italy is indeed an important market. And by looking how Saab is regaining there right now, it will continue to be a key market. Total sales last year in Italy was 620 cars YTD 2010, and so far in 2011 Saab has sold 406 cars, so yes it is impressive.
Sorry, wrong number there by me. Of course YTD 2011 so far is 384 and not 406.
Oh how strange that looks…… 😉
UK numbers anyone? I only have this link to archived sales data.
https://www.smmt.co.uk/members-lounge/member-services/market-intelligence/vehicle-data/archived-monthly-registration-figures/
Seems to me that your supposed to pay for the latest data?
Are there any other places for this kind of info bout sales data?
I tried ACEA to see if I could get access to the different countries data but most of the countries only have a web presence in their native language. 🙂
http://www.acea.be/index.php/country_profiles/detail/sweden#text
StefanH,
I don’t know if you really have to pay for the old report, or for the extra reports yoe also had to pay in the past, but in any case, SMMT will publish the data on the 6th of April at 9:00 a.m. UK time.
The old reports are for free, as You can see using the link. Just need to click the download button.
But the new ones are more tricky. Seems to cost You some cash. 😉
Stefan the UK numbers will be on line on Wednesday.
Thrilling!
Do You know if the number are for free?
So far I have added up to 7138 sold saabs.
And that is without the numbers for March in UK, Germany, France, Denmark, Belgium and Greece. Also without Jan & Feb in Poland. Haven´t got any numbers for the Baltic countries.
And OFC the rest of the world is a white spot. Including Tasmania. 🙂
StefanH,
from the data last year, the rest of the world, with central Europe and the Baltic countries sum up to 5% of the total monthly sales data.
For Poland I posted the YTD figures for 2011, but if you would like to know the Jan and Feb figures, I can send them to you.
Yes, please do. Thanx!
And yes again. I´ve made a spread sheet and I now see that I entered following data regarding Poland.
Poland twelve points….Oh, just kidding…still in the after-waves of Swedish Euro-vision song contest! 🙂
Seriously. Poland, March 44 YTD 81. Probably Your numbers.
@StefanH STHLM,
how did you come to 7138 cars so far this year? I have been going trough the numbers published here on united and only got 6123 so far this year…
The numbers we have show a total number of sales for Saab during January – March on 7415 cars so far from the markets we have. We are awaiting the UK numbers still.
The numbers are split on 2490 in January, 2146 in February, and so far 2779 in March. And this is just numbers from about 20 markets (but I would say the major 20 markets for Saab).
W.r.t. France Simonsson indicated during a Dogma style hand cam interview with some French guy during Geneva that things are on the move in the French market. They spoke about lacking dealer representation in the guy home town and Simonsson assured that there will be ad dealer there as well. For what it’s worth. Other inputs?

Interesting, because when you look at the data here and sum up those numbers they doesn’t match the ones you link to… so we should ask ourselves which data from AMVIR in Greece we should rely on.
But then on the other hand the data you show at gives us the total sum including passanger cars and taxis, while the numbers I relate to gives us only the gives the passenger car numbers.
From the files you linked to:
9-3 (Jan 9 Feb 8 Mar 5 YTD 22)

Thank you for being so stubborn.. 🙂
I had a miss in the formula missing the column with the 9-3X-numbers. And yes. you are right.. YTD is 64. 🙂
No problem at all 🙂
In Germany, Saab sold 230 cars in October 2008.
January to October: 3300 cars.
So there’s room for improvement…
Martin,
we are in April, why are you comparing March 2011 with October 2008??
Cause my Saab was one of the 230 😉
You are right, in every single market there is much room for improvement,. Good news; Saab is heading that way.
During my time of buying 30 new SAABs since #1 in 1975, I have become 10 years older than the SAAB president, about the same as Mr. Johnsson. I always kind of thought I was showing my loyalty to SAAB….IMHO more so than the guy who buys ONE and keeps it a long time. When you buy a lot of SAABs, you are helping to get them distributed out to others. Can you imagine how sales would be if more SAAB enthusiasts did that?! I’m from the era of Sten Wennlo, Runar Ekman, Albert Trommer, Bob Sinclair, and Len Lonnegren… Read more »
News of another production stop in Trollhättan this morning made it to the German radio news (I think the first radio news since Saab was sold to Muller). Does anybody know what is going on again?
Yes, it looks like Saab had a production stop once again.
You can find this news in many sites.
I have started on a Excel sheet with some of the numbers I could find on the site. I haven’t found all of them as you can see, but it’s a start…
EXcel-file
Do that. We have one spanning back to 2001 for some markets. I’m working on creating a dedicated page here at SU where all numbers easily can be shown.
The link to the document was removed, but maybe you got it?
No, I didn’t – but all the numbers here at SU we have. We are more searching for numbers not posted here at SU.. so we can post them here.. 🙂
Can’t open it. I can unzip it, but not open it. Which markets do you cover that we don’t have here? Because I think we might already have them in our documents if you have taken them from what we have gathered here.
It’s nothing you don’t have already, but I can try to find those you don’t have. I hope you can put out a preliminary sheet public so that people can help out. It’s hard to know which numbers you miss when they are on different blog posts. 🙂
I am working on that. You have to wait until the weekend when I’ll enter a post about the thoughts for the coming “Saab Sales Data”-page here at SU, or more or less called “SSD”.
the external link has to be linked to a word in your text, otherwise you won’t see the link.
With Germany I summon that to appr. 7500 sold saabs.
Exkl March for UK, Denmark and Greece.
So we are hoping for 9k units for Q1 11?
If we have more than 1600 from the UK market for March, then we’ll breach the 9k number for Q1 -11.
2k units would be fantastic 1.5k would be OK
I know the numbers but I don’t know if I get in to trouble if I say them 🙂
KarlR: You don’t have to. We will get them tomorrow.. 🙂 But you have to admit that it must be a great feeling on knowing something so many others want to know… 🙂
Carl-Henrik: You are very true! So tempted but it’s so close so I wait 🙂
So Saab has sold approx. 9000 cars Q1, that’s not very impressive when they have stated that they will sell 80000 cars this year. They will have to more than double the sales for every quarter to be able to reach those numbers. How will that be possible?
The 9-5SC should count for some 20000 more alone. If Caddy sold 75k of SRX last year then 9-4x should do quite well too. Sub 120g/km 9-3´s should do their part. IMHO 80k is not out of reach even without the 9-4x.
JoS,
You have to remember this is the slowest 1/4 in a selling year, at least in North America. I thought the same thing until I thought of the time of year and that there are still 2 new models to come out this year. I think the targets can still be hit if they can produce the cars and not have too many suppliers hold them hostage.
The numbers of Germany stil make me sad. Come on Saab!
My guess: 8.200 cars in Q1.
And the 9-5 SC will only be available in Q4 ’11 they won’t sell 20.000 cars in such a short period.
Last year Saab sold only 6/7k 9-5 Sedan’s.
BoeBoe,
we are already at 8.3k cars in Q1. 😉
Red J,
Is Q1 usually slow in every market or is this more a North American thing?
BoeBoe,
Don’t forget last year there was a problem with no sunroof in the Aero’s which I’m sure was reflected in the numbers and the US is now picking up with 9-5 sales and the 9-5 SC will add to totals even if it is a short production cycle. Also, North America is really waiting for the 9-4X, not sure of the rest of the world.
I don’t think that Q1 is a globally slow, but in many northern markets Q1 should be slow because of the climate.
Q1 falls right around income tax time as well for us in North America. Climate?? Wouldn’t that be a worldwide thing? We all experience winter in winter. 2nd and 3rd 1/4 are always a much busier time in North America, I would assume this is a worldwide thing and it’s not far fetched to think Saab will have much bigger numbers to come from those months.
C’mon Brendan, where’s the Oz figures??? I only know there were 5 x NG9-5s registered in March. Anything else??
