Saab Owners Club GB National this weekend.

This weekend is the National get together event for the Saab Owners Club of GB.

It is being held at HAYDOCK RACECOURSE over the weekend of the 29-31 July 2011, members and non members are welcome, traders and car boot sales are welcome, evening meals will be available for Friday and Saturday, pets are allowed but must be kept on lead, Access to set up Tents,Caravans etc, is available from 14:00 29-July-2011.

The Proposed Programme is;

Friday 29th July:

Arrival on site from 2.00pm for caravans, tents etc. (collect your wristband for identification purposes throughout the weekend!)
Welcome drinks at reception
Afternoon free: consider –

  • “The Summer Beach” – Church Square, St Helens (bring your bucket and spade!) and town centre shopping (drop in on ‘Tyrer’s’ – the Harrods of the north!)
  • The World of Glass (St Helens) or Catalyst (Widnes) – outstanding museums and visitor centres!
  • Knowsley Safari Park
  • Fir Tree Farm and Billinge Hill (the highest point in Merseyside!)
  • Carr Mill Dam, further down the E. Lancashire Road …
  • “Dream” – the spectacular, internationally significant, 20 metre-high landmark sculpture sited on the former Sutton Manor Colliery
  • The National Wildflower Centre, (Roby)or the Lavender Farm (Rainford)
  • Bent’s Garden World, Glazebury
  • The Brass Band Archive, Trencherfield or Haigh Hall in Wigan.
  • The Sankey Viaduct, Vulcan or Rainhill  monuments to the industrial past!

Evening in the Newton Stand area:

  • Fish and Chip supper (Vegetarian Lasagne) served at 7.00pm
  • Bar available between 6.30pm and 11.30pm
  • Quizzes and music

Please note the main entrance will be barred when staff have left the site at night time.

Saturday 30th July:

Arrival on site from 9.00am for day visitors – ensure you wear your wristband!

  • Breakfasts available in the cafe in the Newton Stand area
  • Displays of Saab cars ranked in model order
  • Best car competition
  • Members’ autojumble
  • Display of new cars by Wilson Saab of Bolton
  • Driving tests – test your skill … in someone else’s vehicle!
  • Technical demonstrations
  • Visit the Saab Library!
  • Club Shop
  • Raffle
  • Children’s play area
  • ‘Paint a car’
  • Organised children’s play activities, competitions and prizes!
  • Children’s scavenger or treasure hunt
  • Cafe open until about 6.00pm in the Newton Stand area.

Evening in the Whittle Suite

  • ‘Melon Opera’ (melon with red berry compote); Roast loin of bacon with peppercorn sauce – served separately; Lemon tart with raspberry coulis. (Four cheese ravioli with cream sauce – for vegetarians!)
  • Bar etc 6.30-11.30pm
  • Music etc.

Sunday 31st July:

  • Breakfasts available in the cafe in the Newton Stand area.
  • Organised drive via several points of interest to park on the sands at Southport!
  • Alternatively, organise your own local visit to range of attractions: Manchester, Liverpool, Blackpool , Chester etc., and their many attractions are all easy drives within an hour or so of Haydock Park!

Site cleared by 7.00pm please.

  1. Why haddock? It miles away from anywhere, what not have the event more central? Three counties show ground Malvern etc? Hayodck seems miles away. Well done socgb for again for not listening to club members!
