Trollhättan Saab Museum
Our plan is to arrive at the Saab Museum at 18.45.
Here we will meet up with everybody else before departing to our hotels.
I have tried to do the whole route here at this link here,
Red J and myself got chatting about a convoy which would travel from Northern Europe to Trollhättan and SaabsUnited’s Octoberfest.
I will be driving from England on Thursday 29th September in my 9-5 Anniversary and staying in Northern Germany for the night.
My route will take me via Dover and Dunkerque (F), past Antwerp (B), Venlo (NL), Hannover (D) and finally staying for the night in Bomlitz.
Early on the Friday morning I will leave Bomlitz and head for Puttgarden where I am booked onto the 11.15 ferry to Rodby.
At Puttgarden I will meet up with Red J and this is where we would like to invite everybody to join the “Convoy from the South”
We have thought about others crossing into Sweden from other routes and have proposed the following meeting places with times.
Puttgarden 11.00
Rodbyhavn 12.00
Karlslunde 13.30
Helsingborg 15.10
Varberg 16.40
Trollhättan 18.40
This will be a nice steady drive that will get us to Trollhättan in good time for the evening get together.
You can of course join in the convoy at any time along the route. We won’t leave any of the places listed above before the times mentioned.
Most of you will probably know our Saab 9-5 Wagons and I don’t think there will be too many Ice Blue 9-5’s with English plates on or Red 9-5’s with German plates on driving together.
We are looking forward to seeing lots of you on route.

Sounds great! Now what about a convoy from Vänersborg on the morning of October 1st? =)
Sounds great! When? Where?
will it be a convoy from vbg? in that case name a time and place
I’m on board, but where shall we meet? Wonder if Robban had thought up something?
I made a post in the “Travel plans” section of the forum but the forum is anything but active so yeah.. 😛 Anyhow I was thinking Oct 1 08:15 at Quality Hotel, we stay there for 15 min so everyone can get there and leave towards ANA at 08:30 What y’all think about that?
Hello. I will be at the Quality Hotel 8:15. looking forward to this!
I drive a blue 9-5 SC Hirsch:) How many cars are there?
Hey
Okey, cool. I’ll be in my red 96 and my friend will have his white 9-3, so far we are three cars then, always something 😛
yea it’s gonna be a great day 🙂
RikardH from SU Crew will probably join you guys in Vänersborg! =)
me and a friend will probably be there in he’s blue 9-3. our plans was to go in 2 cars but i broke my gearbox yesterday so we have to go in one!
Sounds great! See you in the morning!
D*mn…would have loved to join, but i have another appointment: a photo-shoot with my 1986 9000, together with a Fiat Croma, Lancia Thema and a Alfa Romeo 164, being the fruits of a cooperation of the 4 brands in developing 4 new models sharing the same platform (TIPO4-project).
Are you sure you want to drive the distance from GB to the ferry in just one day? From here (Hilversum) to the ferry in Frederikshavn took me about 9 hrs, 880km…
Just a thought 😉
I will be having a rest in Northern Germany on the Thursday night, so will be all fresh in the morning.
Rearrange the place of the photo-shoot to Trollhättan… 😉
9k,
good you mention that. I don’t know if Fiat is willing to base its Alfas and Fiats on Chrysler platforms, but at the motor show there was no mid-sized cars from those two brands only a Chrysler 3000 named Lancia Thema and Chrysler 200 called Lancia Fluvia.
Maybe Mr. Marccione should make a call to Sweden to restart and old partnership.
We’ll try to book the same ferry… coming from southern Germany. Looking forward to seeing u.
That will be great.
Antwerpen – Venlo means you pass by my hometown Eindhoven! I am not able to go to Trollhattan, if you know what time you pass, I’d be happy to offer you a drink or snack!
I’ll meet you at Karlslunde
Hopefully together with a couple of other guys from the club 🙂
I will try to join u in Puttgarden it’s a one hour drive from where i live. 😉
Enjoy the breakfast on the DFDS boat, they are very good….Shame that you weren’t going 2 days later as I am travelling to Leiden in Zuid Holland, via Antwerp in my 9-5 to celebrate a friend’s milestone birthday then that could have been the first part of the convoy….
I did the drive from London to Luebeck at the end of May, in one day – 694 miles, again via Leiden and north through Groningen before hitting those dastardly roadworks on the A1 between Bremen and Hamburg..and we complain about the state of the British roads…..
Can’t join, sorry. Coming home from vacation that very same day…
From LIDKÖPING???
I’ll drive from Särestad early saturday morning, so I might join part of the way from Lidköping.
How tempting this is… 🙂
But I can’t. It’s my birthday and it would be somewhat impolite not to be at home.
What a shame-My wife has just booked a Holiday in “The Lakes” maybe next year…it would have been great fun in my old black 900 t16 Aero. Have a great time!
Would love to come and show support as well as adding another ice blue 9-5 wagon to the convoy (with GB plates). The snag is my wife has run out of vacation days until the christmas break, so I’m short of a navigator and my prysbyopia makes map reading on the fly very difficult. I can’t get on with satnavs (I can’t stand the voices, I can’t read the displays and most of all they really annoy me). The last time I drove to Trollhättan, was in ’95 when I had good eyesight and DFDS ran ferries from the UK… Read more »
Have you tried to make stops and the memorize the next few junctions and road numbers, before you stop again and memorize etc…? It will of course take more time, but you’d get there eventually. 🙂
Yeah that is a good technique, used to do that when riding across Europe on the motorbike (before I bought a tank bag with a map pocket).
Google maps prints out quite good listings provided its database is accurate and up to date (been caught out when it’s not! Montpelleir rings a bell).
Once I have been somewhere I usually can remember the route quite well for many years after.
Time is the factor though. I’ll have a play with google maps tonight and work out some pace notes and discuss the idea with “she who must be obeyed”.
I’ve booked onto the 10.00am DFDS ferry from Dover. So following could be an option until i get near to my sisters house in Bomlitz.
Will u take the E20 (Öresundsmotorvejen) to Malmö or take the ferry from Helsingör to Helsingborg?
For my part I’ll be taking the bridge into Malmo but we do plan to stop in Helsingborg just after three to meet anyone who wants to join in.
I usually avoid the ferries and drive through Denmark, because I just like driving. And those bridges are spectacular, too.
I enjoy taking the ferry because it forces me to take a decent rest.
It is too easy to drive 6 hours straight in a 9-5 without rest… (I only say 6, because with half-decent speed the car will be low on fuel about then)
Last year we did North Wales to Trollhattan in 36 hours (approx 1250 miles). Main Rest Stops were the ferries (Dover-Dunkirque), (Frederikshavn-Gothenberg), few shorter breaks along route. Left home at 8pm Friday arrived in Trollhattan 8.00am Sunday. This was in the 32 year old 3dr 99 Turbo, 3 adults plus camping gear for 2 weeks stay.
For Octoberfest we will be flying from Manchester Int. into Landvetter Gothenberg Friday morning and hiring a car, so if anyone needs a lift from Landvetter around 10.30am, please let us know we have 2 spare seats.
where in North Wales?
You’re not the guy I bumped into at the Shell Station on Rhyl Road in Denbigh a few months back? mind you I think there was a hotspot of 99Ts in North Wales.
How did you find the journey from Northern Germany to THN?
We will also come to the Octoberfest to Trollhättan.
Me, my girlfriend an our black 9-3 Viggen Convertible will arrive on Friday the 30 th of September at 11:15 with the Finnlines ferry in Malmö.
We want to meet the Convoy to Trollhättan. I think we will see the other cars at the latest in Helsingborg at 15:10. Where exactly is the meeting point?
There are no defined meeting points, but if we know somebody is joining in, and I think you are the second one joining in in Helsinborg, we will arrange a meeting point.
Best is if you leave a message in the Forum.
Hi
I will also meet up at Helsingborg, please let me know where !!!
Regards Ulf Stensson
Over the weekend I will try and place pictures from google maps of possible meet locations.
Hi
I know the area and I´m going there tomorrow , spontaneous I´m thinking of the suthern approach of Helsingborg, there you have two petrolstations, Statoil and ….. could bee a good meetingpoint. I contact you tomorrow again.
Regards Ulf
Is there an estimate on what time the southern conwoy pass Gothenburg, would like to join in.
Regards Anders Ostergaard
The maps for the proposed convoy from the south are now at this link.

As I told you, unfortunately have to be in Spain on Monday evening, so…..another time.
BUT, all you guys that are going, PLEASE take lots of SD cards [and batteries} Films & movies…..I will expect many hundreds of great PHOTOS for SU over the next few weeks.
Anyway, Safe Journey to all & most of all,..ENJOY…..
HI Terry
thank you for everything
I will be trying to make a video of the route in time lapse mode so I hope the sd cards hold out
I will try to meet up with you guys north of Lilla Edet and guide you guys through the hell of road re-construction that is going on right now! =)
Unfortunately I won’t be able to make it in the end, due to a combination of lack of holidays, huge workload and extreme fatigue after moving house this month. It’s a pity, but such is life.
I would have really loved to take my 9-5 back to “the base”. But that means you’ll have to organise another event sometime next year, right?!
Like many others I’ll be waiting for pictures. Have fun guys!
What a shame =/ But next year there must be a Saab festival and another October-fest! 🙂
We will meet you at Karlslunde!
My convoy of one is now crossing the English Channel.
Just Nellis and I in the car, no arguments yet. Lol
We will meet you with a silver colored 9-3 Griffin Convertible due south of Trollhättan =)
Hi,
Im gonna join with me 9-5 v6 near halmstad and my dad is driving from trollhättan to gothenburg to join with a 2011 9-3 griffin.
See u on the road guys and griffin up!
