A Celebration Of Life

This is off topic but needs to be shared. Many of you already know or have heard of the tragedy that took place at East of Sweden in Colorado last week. I did a post on our Facebook page about it but if you didn’t hear, I will give you a little background.

East of Sweden is an independent Saab repair shop in Broomfield, Co and a favorite of many Saab fans. Friday October 12th at about 2pm a man who once was a roommate of Mary McGrath, who was an employee and face of East of Sweden, entered the shop. He had a short conversation with the owner whom he knew very well. As the owner left the room, Mary entered and the suspect pulled out his weapon and proceeded to shoot.

There is more to the story online including the suspects name, but I see no point in publishing such things because it makes them be the spotlight and this is not where the spotlight should be. The individual had actually planned on killing a hotel employee as well and himself, not the kind of person to deserve any spotlight in my books.

Customers and friends alike on social media and in the local papers have express sadness to a lady who was very nice and a pleasure to deal with saying she didn’t have a mean bone in her body.

Today, the folks at East of Sweden and friends and family are celebrating the life of Mary McGrath, from the East of Sweden website we find the following:

Mary was 56 years old. My heart goes out to the East of Sweden family. We are all a part of a global family in this world of Saab and if you knew Mary or have a message to share with the East of Sweden team, I invite you to share your comments here. On their website they have an email address as well, I sent an email the other day myself but I can only imagine their email is probably getting flooded. We are all saddened at the senseless loss of Mary and feel for everyone who knew her.

  1. Jason: I’m sure I met some of these folks at SOC 2009 at Cooper Mt. It’s hard to beleive this might have happened to anyone you might have known. All I can say is just right this down an another life wasted by the conplete lack to responsible gun control in the US. Europeans can not understand how easy it is to get a hand gun in the western United States. There was another mass shootng today in fact. I wonder how many lives could be saved every year if people would wake up and see the results of these senseless crimes.

  2. Chris, you probably did meet some of them. It is so hard to believe this could happen and as much as I may agree that it’s very or too easy to get a gun in the US, this could and does happen anywhere and everywhere. Even with gun laws, bad people get weapons, I just wish people would see better ways to handle anger and frustrations. I read all that has been written about this case so far and to think he said he chose that day because he was out of money with nothing to lose. It’s sad to think he had these thoughts for so long and never thought to maybe get help. The mental health issues in America, Canada and every nation are probably a bigger problem then gun laws. Very sad.

  3. My thoughts and prayers are with all the family and friends. It is so hard to imagine such a horrible and senseless thing happening to one of our “Saab Family” members.
