Huy 2013 “The Show”

DSCF0532Last weekend saw the 3rd International Saab Gathering in Huy, Belgium, the home town of Etienne.
A convoy of nine cars from the UK made the trip via the Chunnel arriving in Huy just after 2pm. Other Brits were already there cleaning their cars and getting ready for the display on Sunday.

After booking into the various Hotels we were invited to Etienne’s house for a welcome drink. So many people with standing room only and the local road was a sea of Saabs.
Later in the evening over 80 Saab fans sat down together for a fantastic meal at the local Bar called O’Malleys. I think the majority of fans were still there at 11.00.

Sunday morning saw a wet welcome to the day, yes it was raining, but it was steady light rain and this did not stop the cars arriving at The Town Square from 7am to park up for the day. The sun did arrive by late morning.

There were a few tents there with items to sell and see as well as to be able to register for the afternoon tour and goodies from the show.

Etienne was there himself directing the first cars into place and it was by chance that I was parked outside the Town Hall which is a very beautiful building. As more and more Saabs arrived the Square filled up and the small spur paths and then the large car park on the front. Etienne counted in excess of 170 Saabs by the end of the day. I saw cars from France, Switzerland, Germany, Sweden, Luxembourg as well as Belgium and The UK.

The visitors were asked to vote for their favourite Saab of the show and the prize went to a very nice Saab 96 Sport owned by Henti Brusten.

There is a report in French at Jeff, Remi and Etienne’s shared website Saablog-in and many links to photo’s.
My photo’s are here and my friend Carl has put his here.

Once again a fantastic weekend out in Belgium and we look forward to the next Huy invasion in three years time.

Robin’s wonderful photo of Dave Ross: Canadian Flag draped over his Exemplary 99 — on Rememberance Day Weekend . How I wanted to be there (next year!)

Is Dave thinking of moving to Canada? What’s the story behind the flag?

^ LOL — Though I’ve tried to persuade, Dave is firmly rooted in British Soil! Can’t take credit for Maple Leaf either– but appreciated the gesture as he knew I was unable to make the trip .

Knowing his Heartfelt Respect for military Sacrifice: More a nod to the role of Canadian Troops in Liberations that Rememberance Weekend.

Hope we soon get the Saab Club Belgium amongst the clubs here at SU;
While the Saab Club Belgium was of course present in Huy with a lot of cars, we also do have lot’s of pictures to share with you.
Once we get our request rewarded to be added to the clubs already here at SU, we will be able to share more pictures of this perfectly organised event.
Congratulations to Etienne and the sponsors.
