Japanese manufacturer Takata has a big recall on their inflator systems.
“is expected to include approximately 110,000 Saab 9-3 and 9-5 vehicles” for driver-side airbag inflators in cars sold here from 2003 to 2011. (GM owned Saab until 2010.)
GM spokesman Tom Wilkinson on Jan. 22

Not me 3cyl shit happens. NOT at nevs acc my inside info they just engineering nice saab cars models. Key words: energy diversity, propulsion system. AT the moment there are some clever engineers and designers at work.
And i like movies who play between the line of fiction and reality. The line between love and hate is very thin sung by ……?
Before carlo a is reacting on this . Nevs is not yet biting the dust .
Will this include UK spec cars? If so how will we be notified?
KT good question. I hope ORIO AB have a good data base. At the moment their website is infected.
Kt In belgium via a letter of the official importer of the cars but they are all gone. The present organisation per country i do not know.
Well at the moment Orio still own or part own the remnants of what was the SAAB dealership chain, which was also know as SAAB UK. I still get my car serviced every year with my local dealership with my service plan so hopefully Monique is right and it will be Orio who deal with the recalls. It’s probably the most logical step, and sounds like it’s the manufacturer of the airbag inflators who will be liable for the recall costs. Could be quite a lucrative exercise for Orio!
To find out if your airbag or airbags are under recall will be an hard exercise. A Lot will depend on takata. They are under high stress .
And if they collapse do we have another manufacturer ?
In case their Ammonium nitrate propellant may no longer be used.
maybe delphi in uk near you or TRW I’m sure they will follow this as vulture birds.
I am not on the list with my car but that takata list is NOT final yet.
With a eec type approval.
AND with a better PYROTECHNIC system than takata
I wonder who we will be asked to bring the cars to for the recall work? A bush league GM dealer who will mess around with the electrical system of our cars? Just what I need, some yo-yo putting down the wrench he was using on a Chevy Cobalt to murder my 9-5.
Exactly. There’s only two people I trust to do work on my Saabs, ME first and foremost, and I have to say while I’m an “amateur mechanic” I do impeccable work. It’s my car and I want it done right every time, and that’s how it gets done. If it’s something bigger or something I don’t have time for, (last thing was 3 years ago, a new clutch) I trust my local indie Saab repairman. Great guy, loves Saab, does terrific work. Having a GM shop work on your Saab? Expect to fix one problem and come back with 3… Read more »
And when that happens—not if, but WHEN that happens, they will deny that they screwed anything up. “Coincidence” “Was already broken” “Sorry” and GM won’t lift a finger to help. If I am one of the victims, I will take the dealer and GM to small claims court and get the most I could.
If your GM dealer is on the streets in Cleveland Ohio you are right. But you are not.
As a SAAB specialist/dealer, I have some spare bags on the shelf for 9-3 and 9-5 from 2003-2007, they ALL say Autoliv Sverige AB on the label, none say Takata. Is it possible that Takata was a supplier to Autoliv? I hope not…
Gregory for all clarity: trued said :for driver-side airbag. exact location of the inflators involved interests me.
I assume this would include 2008 9-5 Sportcombi also? Hmm…how to know for sure?
You put your vin into the GM website under recalls. Saab Service Centers are to do the work. My 2008 and 2009 9-3s are currently not recalled. I will probably check several times to make sure I’m not on the list.
The recall VIN doesn’t work on GM website. Yes, it’s cheaper for them. I think I will ask my serviceman who was a contracted partner of Saab. Reliable Japanese technology, eh?
Millions of cars are affected and from now on the owners can not be sure if the replaced airbags will work properly…
So in the us you will never personally informed by owner registration? And you have to take the initiative all the time by yourselves? Also read the bad confidence in us car mechanics So saab was right years ago about a large us engine claim that us saab owners put salad oil in their engines.
Replace them pieces shrapnel are coming out.
They are now calling as takata petri at least here.Tetri AG a german co merged with takata in 2000. They are market leader.
Correction: Read : petri ag not tretri. my present car land rover evoque has takata petri airbags according to the suppliers list . I called land rover about the red alerts about takata he said so far no info from land rover HQ And he advised me the procedure they follow given above as advice to belgian saab drivers on the roads.
Mr Tinkertrain THERE is always a certain de degree of uncertainty in a product. for an airbag this should be as low as possible proven by the test approvals required by these bloody test so called 3 party people. They have no clue about such a product and can give a approval when you pay him a nice dinner. Only track records in time will prove this. I am not sure that the vin nr only will lead you to all part numbers nbrs in your car. nowadays the part nrs and labeling can be read from the outside like… Read more »
GM recall website did work for me. I do plan to recheck in the future.
For belgian saab owners read this: procedure first national car registration database come into action. authorities alert the importers with their database for correctness of addresses and dealers informed about the recall organisation for the owners.
sorry here again with my stupid comments: we are talking about the drivers airbag in the steering wheel Not the pass airbag in the front and the curtain airbags .
No panic but the more i read about it it’s better that a car burglar takes it out in few seconds than have it in your car at frontal impact.
Its getting worse takata have no clue which one should replaced. HIGH pressure is unpredictable.
And now i will take short break from the SU stage and see you back in …..minutes
I am back again and spoke to a close relation of me who is responsible of a large data base in research. she said every point ,comma and capital letter is documented and saved. I am wondering who pays the bill here at the end? BUT live is first.
For all who think who the hell is monique I Am monique in real my husband moderated the texts. Both we were fanatic saab drivers given the virus to each other.
IF you see the earth reached by air planes there is some tropical cancerline. There is also a saab line.
So after the hydrogen topic were most saab drivers believe that a spark of static energy from a person’s finger is enough to set it off we are now in pyrotechnics. Interested?
