Saab specialist building destroyed by fire

A tragic event happened last night in the Dutch city of Ommen. A building in a business complex, where among other Saab Service Ommen is located, was completely destroyed in a large fire. No people seem to have been injured, but a lot of cars were destroyed.

The emergency services was called to the scene around 02:15 in the night between Tuesday and Wednesday. The fire grew quickly and the firefighters could only focus on preventing the fire from spreading to adjacent buildings. Around 05:00 the fire was under control.

Here’s a video showing the fire:

A lot of Saab cars can be seen in the video, among those a Saab 9000, NG900, OG9-5 and a NG9-3 Cabriolet. Saab Service Ommen is an appreciated Saab specialist, who sells and repairs Saab cars. They also perform restorations of classic Saabs.

Our thoughts are with the owners and employees of Saab Service Ommen.

I wonder what the cause of the fire was? Terrible that so many nice (and quickly becoming scarce) beautiful Saabs were likely damaged or destroyed.

The investigators think a car was stolen at the garage next to SSO and the guys who took the car started the fire…… It was an Opel (Vauxhall) Vectra ….

If no one was injured, that’s the most important thing. But if this was arson, the criminals need to be brought to justice. They destroyed Saabs, after all. I’d sentence them to something extreme. These aren’t Yugos.

A partial sentence would be to force the perpetrators to rely on Swedish-built NEVS vehicles as their only source of motorized transportation for the next, say, five years. (They’d better learn to appreciate walking on their own two feet, in other words.)

The Dutch police has confirmed that the fire has been lit. This makes it in my opinion even more sad as when it had an technical cause.

I think not many people outside The Netherlands and Belgium can read Dutch, but for those who want to see the article that confirms the the cause of the fire: http://www.destentor.nl/regio/ommen/politie-bevestigt-brand-ommen-is-aangestoken-1.6580110

I was not on the SaabsUnited site for a couple of days and now could read Jonathan’s story as well as the articles in Dutch (hanks for this link) This is a catastrophe for the fine dealership of Jan-Willem Brinks and for all the other owners who lost their businesses. Hope they all have the courage and the means of starting over again.
