Aftonbladets Robert Collin on Governmental responsibility

From today

Who takes responsibility when the government forces Saab out of business?
April 26, 2011, at 11:41 Written by Robert Collin

Why is Sweden so hostile to its car industry?
In no other country in the world a government is actively working so hard to close down its car production. In no other country are people up like a man and chanting “Close the s*it down!”.
Only in Sweden.

Back to the future with Lars Carlström

A couple of weeks ago I got in contact with Lars Carlstöm to see if he would be willing to answer some questions from me and the SaabsUnited team of writers. I had never spoken to Lars before, but was welcomed almost like an old friend. Really, he is that friendly!

Lars is as many of you will know a partner to Mr Vladimir Antonov, the VP of Conversgroup Holding Ltd., but he’s also a very friendly guy.

I was hoping for answers to questions I had prepared in a word document, but being the talkative and passionate man that Lars is, he instead returned a story of his journey though one of the most amazing business deals ever made, or at least so in the Automotive sector, GM’s sale of Saab Automobile AB.

I got answers to my questions, only in a different and hearty way.

And no– I’m not going to comment much on what Lars has to say in this article. What you read comes from Lars himself and I found that’s the best way to share his thoughts.

Lars Carlström

Lars’s story after the jump…

The land of “Lagom” has its exceptions

(Or -:I will get critique.. But hey that’s cool, I´m toying with stereotypes)

“Lagom” is a word only used in the Swedish language and constructed to explain how Swedes ought to be brought up and look upon Everything we do in life. How much we eat, how much we work, how much se(… how babies are made) we have. Well, we may do what everybody else in the world does as long as we do it with moderation.

“Lagom”= To not do something to excess. For doing the latter would be showing off and that is So not Swedish.

I am a typical Swede that grew up in typical Swedish suburbia in a typical small Swedish town in a typical Swedish upper/middle class family with a Saab car outside in the driveway and at times there were two.

-:Oh, you forgot the “typical” at the end there Tompa… No I did not. And here´s the reason why:

A Cowboy and the big surf

I will keep this post at the top during the weekend as it may be of interest for many.

More on Christopher Johnston and Merbanco

I want to begin by letting you know why my first post on SaabsUnited deals with a company and person that has been a topic many times before here on SU. Our dear friend Swade has done a couple of brilliant interviews with Christopher Johnston (CJ) CEO of Merbanco.

But the fact is, questions may vary with time and Saab has now been in the most capable hands of Spyker for over a year. Things change and maybe even personal reflections.
CJ is, besides being a businessman on a grand scale, a true lover of Saab and has also been seen commenting quite frequently on SaabsUnited.

This interview is intended to focus a bit more on CJ´s thoughts regarding product, dealerships, markets and perception of the Saab brand and product. Oh and yes, a wee bit on the deal that did not happen.

As always a Big thank you to CJ for taking the time to answer our questions and being so open towards us.

My SaabsUnited contact with Christopher Johnston, CEO Merbanco

I got in contact with Christopher a while ago to see if he would be willing to give his personal views on some of the questions that had been lingering for quite some time in relations to Merbanco´s bid to acquire Saab Automobile from General Motors. Questions that many of us have asked ourselves and pondered over but as yet had an explanation for. Questions like what his views are on the current and future Saab product portfolio. As a friend of SaabsUnited and an allover genuinely good bloke, CJ agreed to give his answers to questions compiled from the SaabsUnited team.

So click on through and find out more. And why “the big surf” in the headline?

(Please note that Chris´s answers are based on his own views and does not necessarily reflect the views of other individuals within Merbanco or involved business partners.)
