Even though SAAB is going through some uncertain times with many challenges ahead, owner’s in Canada and the U.S. still have a soft spot for a brand that defies logic. The SAAB Spirit is alive and well in North America! Looking forward to seeing everyone this weekend!

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

February 3, 2014

Announcing the first ever Canadian SAAB Owner’s Convention 2014 to take place in Toronto, Canada!

Are you a SAAB owner and are planning to take some time off on the 2014 Canada Day long weekend? Members of the SAAB Club of Canada along with fellow SAAB enthusiasts are excited to officially announce Canada’s first ever SAAB Owner’s Convention to take place on June 28th and 29th of 2014 in Toronto, Ontario at The Westin Bristol Place Hotel.

There has been much discussion over the years to finally host an epic event such as this in Canada. After listening to many enthusiasts, we realized that the time is right in 2014 to realize this vision. Whether you have a cherished classic, a perfectly polished 9000 Aero, a lightning fast Viggen, a Turbo X, 9-3 Sportcombi,
NG 9-5, or anything in between, this convention is for all!

We have something planned for everyone – place your car in the People’s Choice or Concourse Show Fields, listen to one of the many tech sessions planned including discussing Vintage SAAB Performance, discussing early SAAB rallying, SAAB tuning seminar, Ask A Mechanic, and much more!

A dyno will be on site for those of you who have made mods and want to measure your horsepower on site at this event. We will have a parts tent brought to us by our many vendors and sponsors as well as a swap meet for those who wish to sell parts individually.

Adding to the excitement is an Advanced Driving Academy which will be offered as an option to registered participants at Shannonville Racetrack on July 2, 2014.

There will also be a special presentation with updates on parts availability and service points. Don’t miss the chance to learn about the viability of keeping your SAAB on the road. The culminating night of festivities is the Awards Banquet with live music, and special guests.

Make plans to head for Toronto in 2014 to reunite with your old SAAB friends and make new ones! Keep checking back with www.saabconvention.ca for more details, event schedule, sponsor information, event registration and hotel accommodation information.

This will be a historic event! Be part of something new…

Sonett Awarded

I received this email from Dave Dalimore of GWS fame about the great weekend they had just had at a Classic Car Show in the West of England. In Dave’s words:  (Also new link to photos)

Great Western Saabs were once again on display at this years Classic Vehicle Restoration Show in the UK which attracted 6,000 classic and vintage car enthusiasts plus displays and demonstrations from the professional restorers and from clubs.orangesonett.

GWS had two SAABs on their stand, a ‘pink’ 96 which was to be detailed and returned to it’s original Toreador Red and a MkIII Sonett in bright orange. The Sonnet attracted much interest as many had never seen one before. In fact it attracted so much interest it won an award! ‘The Most Interesting Car of the Show’.

Owner Howard Bennett says ‘I am still shocked – quite how I managed “Most Interesting Vehicle” in front of an ex-Roger Moore P1800 and a Superleggera Aston (amongst all the other terrific cars there) was a real surprise! Huge thanks to all who helped organise the stand, those who helped me out logistically and of course those who have helped me get the car into the state it is now. I had the best of weekends and the award was indeed the cherry on top of the cake.’
It has been a great year for GWS as they also won two awards at the Classic Car Show back in April of this year and ‘Most Admired SAAB’ at the very popular Swedish Day organised by our very own Robin Morley.

Saab Turbo Club of Sweden – A Track Day

Hi everyone!

One of our members in the Saab Turbo Club of Sweden, Mikael Öhrman (mioh), have been very nice and put up this great movie from our latest track day within the Saab Turbo Club of Sweden.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OWthmcKfefQ&feature=youtu.be

The movie shows many glimts on what we are doing when it comes to a track day.

How we in the steering board of STCS, together with our friends in the Racecrew, are preparing the track the day before.

Then some of the activities we are preforming during a track day.

Many thanks to Mikael Öhrman for the movie!

Best Regards
Michael Törnros

Two 9-3’s find new owners.

P1180547Two of the members of South West Saab each picked up a 9-3 from Astley Saab, Yeovil on Saturday the 26th October.

Isabel Rankin of Yeovil Somerset, and Mike and Marion Barnes of Weymouth Dorset picked up their new cars from Jerry peck MD and Stuart Romain of Astleys

Isabel fell in love with the Commemorative edition Cerulean convertible when she voted for one as the car ‘I would most like to go home in’ at the very first Swedish Day, held at Haynes motor museum in Sparkford,

So much so, that back in April of this year she asked Jerry to source her very own Cerulean, but finding the right car has proved quite a challenge.

P1180543Well, that dream has now come true for Isabel, and her very first drive in her new car, a 2.0t, was with the roof down, Just the way it should be!

Friends and fellow SWS members Mike and Marion Barnes also picked up a 9-3 the same day, this time a Vector sport TID in Fusion blue, Mike’s first diesel car, having owned petrol Saabs for most of his driving life, and a break from his traditional choice of two door coupes.

Isabel, Mike and Marion would like to thank Jerry and all the staff at Astleys for their excellent service and attention, as always.

Open Day at Astley Saab in Yeovil. Updated.

insidegarageThe “Open Day” can only be described as successful. Jerry and his crew were there early on Saturday morning ready with coffee and food for all visitors. All cars were welcome to be “Tech 2’d” and there was a steady flow of Saabs both new and classic in the work shop during the day. Even Kerry’s 9-5 Aero was driven on the ramp for a check-over with happy results. A few full had their air-con re-gassed and cleaned.

Test drives were available to those who were both interested in a new Saab or just wanted to drive a different model to their own. The NG 9-5 was very popular as was a 9-3 Aero that the garage has for sale.

My local Saab group was there, as I’ve said, and we talked to many new faces about our club and the things we get up to during the year.

Saab Parts UK were also on hand to chat about what they were doing and to confirm to everybody that there are plenty of spares to last many years.

The day was such a success that it is planned to do other events around the country, Local Clubs, Local Dealers and Saab Parts UK will get together and offer this great idea around our country.

Maybe its an idea that could go “Around The World”
