Italian Convertible Sunday

(From our friend Talija, translated by my wife, comes a report from a recent club meeting)

Last Sunday in Italy (Friuli district) an annual gathering of 900 OG convertibles took place.

This year only six beauties turned up. At last year’s meeting more than 20 retro convertibles attended. All belong to longtime owners who know each other.

Organizers of the meeting of the club were SAAB 900 CABRIO AMATORI TRIVENETO.

We discussed food (an important topic for a conversation in Italy), the destiny of Saab and how sad that the glory days of the great brand rests in the past. And how great, that these Swedish convertibles were made in Uusikaupunki, Finland. 🙂

Passing cars saluted us with a solid blast of their horn – their passengers all waves and smiles.

Next meeting of the SAAB 900 CABRIO AMATORI TRIVENETO (Italy) club is scheduled for September. Region Veneto. (Venice)

Saab Turbo Club of Sweden – A Track Day

Hi everyone!

One of our members in the Saab Turbo Club of Sweden, Mikael Öhrman (mioh), have been very nice and put up this great movie from our latest track day within the Saab Turbo Club of Sweden.

The movie shows many glimts on what we are doing when it comes to a track day.

How we in the steering board of STCS, together with our friends in the Racecrew, are preparing the track the day before.

Then some of the activities we are preforming during a track day.

Many thanks to Mikael Öhrman for the movie!

Best Regards
Michael Törnros

Saab Owners Club GB New Group

Dragon Saab

It gives me great pleasure to announce the formation of a new local group of the Saab Owners Club GB in my home country of Wales UK, in particular South Wales.

We have not had a regional group of the SOC in Wales for some time so with the commitment of a few local SAAB enthusiasts DRAGON SAAB has been formed.

For those that are not familiar with Welsh folklore the dragon is our national symbol, and yes, we are also
known for being pretty good at rugby too! HaHa.

The first meeting of  DRAGON SAAB will be at 7.30pm on Tuesday 3rd September at the Ty Nant Inn, Ty Nant Road, Morganstown, Cardiff,  CF158LB . As this is the first meet It is hoped it will be supported by as many SAAB owners/enthusiasts as possible. It is then   intended for the meet to occur on the first Tuesday of each month thereafter.

The formation of this group is based very much upon creating an informal, friendly, family orientated environment where EVERYONE  is made to feel welcome whether linked to other affiliations or not. I personally wish this new club every success it deserves.

Please look out for DRAGON SAAB and offer any support you can as all input will be most welcome indeed.

If you require any further information or help with your Saab then please contact either myself here or Chris Redmond at  [email protected]

Saab International 2013. Registration Day

As many of you know The Saab International 2013 is being held in Great Britain this year and is being hosted by The Saab Owners Club, The Saab Enthusiasts Club and UKSaabs. It is taking place at Wicksteed just out side Kettering, Northamptonshire.

Sadly, due to circumstances beyond my control, I can not be there but our man, Martin Lyons is there at the great Saab get together and will send me stories and pictures as the days un fold.

Yesterday was registration day and this saw Beautiful Saabs from many Countries arriving. Then the signing in and collecting of welcome packs. There was a chance to meet friends old and new and chat before being able to enjoy the park and sunshine.
Later in the evening there was a sit down dinner which was hosted by Eric Carlsson.

Martin has sent me many picture, too many for here, so I have placed them on my Flickr page for all to see.

Today, amongst other things, there is a “Fifty Year Parade” of Saabs and this will have commentary by the Great Peter Bäckström from the Saab Car Museum in Trollhättan. The cars will be in driven and displayed in great big arc in the centre of the arena. One for every year that the SOC has been a club.

Neo Brothers will unveil their fantastic 96ss to the awaiting crowd and it will join the others in the arena.

This evening their will be a banquet and live music.

More news later.

SAAB Of The Week

This week the SAAB Of The Week comes to us from Singapore. Joseph Han Kan Chou is one of the guys from SAABSTANCE Singapore and the photo has generated a lot of comments and likes on this one. The people from the SAAB club in Singapore mobilize in a way that reminds me of the different SAAB events (which they have been a part of as well) and they get the word out. I noticed when this photo was posted, people like Abel and his brother Amos Tan were getting the word out to other members of their club to show support for one of their own. There were a lot of questions about things Joseph had done to the car too and what he has done is lowered it with with 35mm springs, 20mm rear spacers, 18″ Hirsch alloys, 225/40 18″ Pirelli Pzeros. Thank you Joseph for sharing your 9-3 with us and please everyone, keep the photos coming to [email protected].

Weekend trip through The Black Forest

I had a message from Carsten about a tour that he is putting together for this weekend, a tour through The Black Forest in Germany.

As he tells me they are very busy getting the final plans together.

The main details (in German) can be found on the forum,

This is the 10th anniversary of the forum…

Here is the message from Carsten

Hello, SAAB-enthusiast,
Like every year, the first weekend in May is the weekend of our “Black Forest Trip”. In a few days we will meet up again for the 2013 tour.

Belonging And The People That Get It

Wether you are part of a Saab Club or a group of like minded Saab nuts that like to just get together and talk cars, nothing beats having a clean car and being able to have a little car show or to even be a part of a large car show.

Often we hear stories about what Saab has meant to individuals and how connected they are to the brand. The one important side to the connection to the brand is that connection runs deeper and there is a connection to the people. Most will join a club or group because they want to have a place where they feel they belong or are appreciated and as a whole, Saab fits that bill very well because to the outside world, they don’t get it.

I have heard of Clubs and Groups that are not overly welcoming or not welcoming at all to people with newer Saabs and have even heard reasoning in a way that is beyond anything that could ever make sense to me. The reason I keep hearing is that the cars are not Saab enough. My way of thinking to these kinds of statements is that if Saab is put into a box of what it can or can’t be by anyone, that will be it for me. I like new and old and everything in between. As I said to people in a conversation in the social media world this week, if you have a new 9-5 or an old 96 and want to talk or share your car with me, I am all ears and eyes and will give you my time. We all belong.
