I hadan interestingconversationwitha fellow Saabenthusiast earlier today. And we discussedSaab9000andhowthis vehicleis nowanearlyextinct unicorn these days.In addition, webothquicklyagreedthat Saab9000isone ofSaab’smodelsthat have been broughtbehindthe spotlightandis somewhat a bit ofa forgotten classicicon.Myfriend possessesnot onlya whole lot of knowledgeabout Saab, butheis also one of thefew people I know with his Saab spirit still intact, his passion will always be there no matter what.Heis alsoan extremelypassionate9000owner,and one ofthe carshe ownsis trulyinterestingonmanylevels.Solet me introduce you to JohanLööf’sMCYSaab9000Aero‘ 94andhisstory of howhe foundhisdream car.
Johan’s first meeting with his dream car, the MCY Saab 9000 Aero featured in the swedish car magazine ‘Bilsport’.
To take you to the beginning of thisstory,we have to rewind the time back to theyear 2000, when I was14 yearsold and the interest for cars started to increase rapidly.I bought myselfmy very firstmotor sports magazine fore a school trip, a swedish car magazine called “Bilsport”, more particularly Bilsport No.5. Saabwas alsohighly interestingat that time (thanks tomy brother). So I closelyexamined and eyed downallSaabsthat werefeatured in the magazine, and theSaab thatstood outthe most wasa small articlewith2 smallpictures ofa Saab9000Aeroin thecolor YELLOW!
Bilsport magazine article – “UNIQUE.Most people whoseesBenny‘syellowSaab 9000Aerowillreact.“What the heck,a yellowAero. It must’vebeen repainted!?“And sure enough,in fact, there wasn’t any produced yellow9000Aero’s – besidesthis one!Benny‘s copyis the only one inthe whole world who was originally paintedintheMontecarlo yellow color”
As a 14 year old boy my instant thought was “One day I’ll own a car like that”. But then again, we all have to admit that we’ve all had our own crazy teenage dreams.Time passedandI soonforgot all aboutthecarin the magazine.Untilone dayinApril2006,when a friend of mineshowed meacar thathis brotherwas going to pick up.And his brother had already asked me if I was interested in buying a 9000 Aero since I was in the need of a car at that moment. WhenIgot to seethe salesad for the car that he mentioned I flew off the chair. It was a MCY9000 Aero! And I instantly recognized the license plate number.Assoon as I got back home I searched through my old Bilsport car magazines and found the article I was looking for, I compared them, and sure enough, it was my teenage dream car that was up for sale! So there wasn’t any doubt about it,Iwas more thaninterested in buying my dream car. The day after this I took the car for a test drive, and it didn’t take long before I was the new owner for it.
“Yes, I’m the owner of a Saab 9000 Aero – and it’s Monte Carlo Yellow! – Johan Lööf”

This car was sold as an IDS (International and Diplomat Sales) car, and we all know that this was something very exclusive. And the car was most likely repainted by a dealerbefore itwas handedout to thecustomer. Though there’sno received confirmationonthat issue yet. The carwas later imported and registrered inSweden1998.
These are the followingspecifications for the carwhenit was commissioned:
