Danish Saab dealer offers royals “7-seat Saab 9-4x”

A Danish newspaper reported the following yesterday:

With the royal family expansion also includes the need for a bigger car, and retailers offering free luxury models.

They’re referring, of course, to Prince Fredrik and Princess Mary of Denmark adding to their royal brood with two new babies a few days ago (named Swade and Elvis, we believe).

The royals currently roll in a Saab 9-3 SportCombi, but that’s obviously going to be too small for the expanded family.

Danish Saab dealers, Andersen and Martini, have stepped in:

– They’re happy [owning] Saab, so we have plans to offer them a Saab 9-4X, which seats seven people. The problem is that the first models come in August and it’s not certain they can wait that long, “said Peter Hansen, CEO of Andersen and Martini.

The other problem is how they’re going to source a seven-seater Saab 9-4x for the royals because Saab don’t – and won’t – make a 7-seater Saab 9-4x.

When I first read this story, I thought Mr Hansen might have some insider info about a 7-seat version coming down the pipeline. Unfortunately, that’s not the case. I checked with Saab in Sweden and the confirmed that the Saab 9-4x will remain as shown at the LA Auto Show, with 5 seats only.

That leaves just two options:

  • A dealer installed rear-facing seat in the back, or
  • A dealer installed seat, facing whatever way they want, on the roof!

It’ll be interesting too see what happens with the royal transports. Personally, I think they should go for his-n-hers Saab 9-5s, with all the girls in one vehicle and the guys in another.

Congratulations to Fred and Mary on their new royal Saab owners

Given that the Crown Royals in Denmark are:

a) Saab owners, and
b) one half Tasmanian

…. it seems appropriate to note the birth of Princess Mary’s twins – a prince and princess – who made their royal journey through the royal birth canal, arriving earlier today to be given a smack on their royal bums to get life started.

Mum and babies are apparently all well. As you can see from the video still-shot of Fredrik, below, the bubs were approximately the size of a juvenile salmon.

Names have not been chosen yet, but given they were born on Elvis’ birthday, there’s a high chance that one might be named after The (other) King. Last time Princess Mary was back here in Hobart, she promised me she’d name the next one as Swade, so I guess there’ll be some royal therapy bills whilst a little girl adjusts to being called Princess Elvis.

The bigger question, now, is what are they going to do with the royal carriage? Below is a picture of the current royal whip – a Saab 9-3 Sportcombi – and yes, newspaper reports say Mary was conveyed to the hospital, safe and sound in the Danish winter, in this very car.

Hmmm, pre-2008 model. Looks like they were due for an update…..

I’d like to suggest that the Saab prototyping people get to work on a rear facing seat for the new Saab 9-5 wagon. It’d be a great way to make a splash for the car in the Scandinavian marketplace. Just image pictures of Fred and Mary loading up Christian and Isabella in the rear-facing seat whilst Swade and Elvis are tucked in safely behind mum and dad.

It’s a marketers dream!

Again, SU congratulations to the Danish/Tassie royals.

Danish VIP launch for Saab 9-5

From Andersen & Martini A/S, the dealers who brought you the excellent 9-5 launch video……

A VIP event was held last night in Copenhagen to launch the new Saab 9-5. The event was organised by Andersen & Martini A/S, and they brought in some special guests to set the night off with a bang!

JAJ and Victor Muller

Yes, that’s Victor Muller and Jan-Ake Jonsson there. The Swedish Ambassador to Denmark was also in attendance.

The night was a raging success, with more than 700 guests showing up to hear about the future of Saab and check out the new Saab 9-5. That’s 700 people…..on a Wednesday.

Magnificent.

Danish dealer raises the bar with Saab 9-5 video

All you dealers out there have a new standard to rise to.

I received this link from Peter Elkjær today. He’s the brand manager at Denmark’s largest Saab dealer, Anderson & Martini A/S in Copenhagen. They’ve produced this great new video to coincide with the launch of the 9-5 there in Denmark.

It’s the best dealer video I’ve seen by a longshot. I don’t know if they hired a crew, got some local film school kids engaged or if they just have some very talented staff, but well done to them.
