Big US Saab sale event between Christmas and New Years

If you’re in the US and you’ve been contemplating getting a new Saab, you might get the opportunity you’ve been waiting for in the week between Christmas and New Years.

A handful of Saab dealers will be participating in this event, all of them making stock available for New Salem Saab in Albany, NY, a long term friend of SU.

I hope to bring you some more details in the next few days, but here’s a sample of what’s going to be available:

2010 9-3 Sports sedan, 4 cyl turbo, 6sp manual trans, no sunroof, black exterior and black leather interior. Sale priced for current Saab owners at $22,750.

There’ll be around 70 or more 2010 models available at these sort of knockdown prices and thanks to Darryl Carl at New Salem Saab we’ll be following the campaign to see how it goes.

The Truth or Dare ads have been prepared, including radio and TV versions, and they’ll be going strong, starting from today.

In essence, we’ve seen this campaign develop right from the get-go with those Truth or Dare ads and next week will be the big test. It’ll be great to watch the process.

This isn’t just an observation exercise, though. It’s a sales event and there are incredibly good cars going at prices that represent amazing value.

As I said at the start, if you’ve been on the fringe of picking up a new Saab for a little while now, you won’t get a better opportunity to bag a big deal than this.

Under $23K for a brand new 9-3 is exceptional value by any measure.

Saab Cars NA to donate $50 per test drive to Make-A-Wish

Saab are running a campaign from now until January 3, 2011, where by they’ll donate $50 to the Make-a-Wish foundation for every Saab test drive undertaken during that period.

Saab have committed to a minimum donation of $50,000, topping out at $250,000. Personally speaking, I’d like to see them spend as close to that $250K as possible.

So if you’re considering a test drive anyway, get to it before January 3 and you’ll not only get drive one of the new Saab 9-5s or existing Saab 9-3s, but you’ll also help out some kids in less fortunate situations.

Since 1980, the Make-A-Wish Foundation has enriched the lives of children with life-threatening medical conditions through its wish-granting work. The Foundation’s mission reflects the life-changing impact that a Make-A-Wish experience has on children, families, referral sources, donors, sponsors and entire communities.

The Make-A-Wish Foundation was founded in 1980 after a little boy named Chris Greicius realized his heartfelt wish to become a police officer. Since its humble beginnings, the organization has blossomed into a worldwide phenomenon, reaching more than 193,000 children around the world.

If you’ve ever known a sick child, then you’ve known the transformational power of a wish.

I am in no way suggesting that you spend Saab’s money for the sake of it (they don’t have enough of it), but this is a worthy cause and a win-win for those already considering going for a test drive in the near future.

Order a Saab 9-4x, get an iPad

This is another one of those things that received some attention in comments during the LA Auto Show, but didn’t to the front page. It’s time to change that.

Mike Colleran made the following presentation during the LA Auto Show, during which he announced a special promotion where the first 500 people to order a Saab 9-4x can receive a new Apple iPad worth $500.

How it works:

  • Go to ordermysaab.com and you can register your interest in the new Saab 9-4x. The dealer you nominate should make contact in January.
  • The final amount of the deposit will be determined by the dealer, but $500 of it is the purchased price of the iPad, which will be credited against your vehicle invoice. You’ll receive an iPad with “some Saab9-4x related software” on it, which I presume you can share with others given Colleran’s remarks about spreading the word.

Based on the value given, I’d say they’re giving away the 16GB WiFi iPad (I priced them in Santa Monica last week during a visit with some others to the Apple store).

I love this concept. A Saab 9-4x at $34,200 is pretty good value anyway and to get the freebie iPad and the opportunity to help promote the vehicle elsewhere is pretty good.

And yes, it does feel good to help promote the interests of a company you believe in – I’ve been doing it for nearly 6 years now so I’m really pleased to see Saab opening up these doors.

It’s been sent out to existing Saab customers as an incentive to come in and take delivery prior to December 31st (thus beating the VAT rise).

I think it’s brown because it’s a subliminal message – you want the Java. You need the Java….

Bard Eker (one of the partners in the Koenigsegg Group) recently said that he’s launching a slow but hostile takeover of Saab, even if he has to buy it one car at a time.

I shot him an email to check the context and he said “We have started the process. Cvk purchased his second Saab…. – and I am still fully occupied with [teaching] my little 1.5 yr daughter how to drive her first – of many to come – Saab.”

Can we look forward to young Ms Eker taking a seat on the board some time soon?

Saab GB offering loyalty bonus

The word from well placed sources is that Saab GB are now offering a loyalty bonus to current and former Saab owners on the purchase of a MY2010 or MY2011 Saab.

If you own a Saab at the moment, or you have proof of past ownership, you could be eligible for £3,000 in savings on either a 9-5 or a 9-3 (see below about the 9-3, it varies).

Here’s the official wording:

£3,000 Saab Loyalty offer*
For both current, and past owners of a Saab car… Saab Great Britain are pleased to announce that your loyalty is being rewarded with a £3,000* discount on a new Saab 9-3 or new Saab 9-5 registered before 31st December 2010 ….. and with the 2.5% VAT increase due 1st January 2011, this surely means there has never been a better incentive to get behind the wheel of a new Saab

* Terms and Conditions apply:
Loyalty reward includes VAT. £3,000 saving on any model year 9-5, whilst on the 9-3 range, the loyalty offer is £3,000 on a MY2010 but drops to £2,500 support on a factory order MY2011 car.

Note that the car has to be registered by December 31st, so custom orders for MY2011 cars would need to be in earlier than that – probably early November – to ensure delivery on time to claim the discount.

SaabUSA offering $1000 luxury incentive

I just thought I’d pass on the fact that Saab Cars North America (SaabUSA is shorter for the sake of a headline) is offering a $1,000 incentive to all owners of a luxury nameplate* if they purchase a 2010 Saab.

* – the car must be 1995 or later, and one of the following brands:

  • Lexus
  • Mercedes Benz
  • BMW
  • Audi
  • Volvo
  • Cadillac
  • Infiniti
  • Acura

One persuasive part about the incentive is that the buyer doesn’t have to trade in their old competitor. They just need to provide proof of ownership.

I found out about the incentive deal from Fred Shaw at Shaw Saab, in Massachusetts. They’re promoting it quite actively in their area and have set aside a spot on their website for customers specifically for this deal.

I kinda reluctant to get picky (I’m really over that sort of gear now), but the page for the SaabUSA site could use some different colors – it’s really hard to read.

Anyway, maybe you can benefit from this incentive, or maybe you can pass it on to some friends. It includes whatever 2010 9-5s that are still in stock, as well as the 9-3 Sport Sedan.

Saab Club North America new car purchase incentive

I’ve mentioned this once before, but just wanted to give it some more airtime and a post of its own to make sure that everyone was aware of it.

This was announced by Victor Muller at the Saab Owners Convention last month, but some who didn’t attend may not yet be aware of it.

From the Saab Club North America website:

We hope you all had a great time at the Saab Club of North America’s 2010 Owners’ Convention. If you were at Saturday’s dinner, one of the many things you learned is that Saab Cars of North America is extending a $500 incentive to Club members in good standing on the purchase of a new Saab.

You can read the full details on the club website, but make sure to also check the latest offers on the Saab website as the loyalty bonus available there changes from time to time. This offer can be used in addition to Saab’s regular loyalty bonus.

As mentioned in the quote, you need to be a Saab Club of North America member to take advantage of this offer.

Head over to the Club website to download a certificate that you can present to your dealer to claim the offer.
