Do you remember seeing the Saab 95HK at The Saab Festival in 2007? Then the discovery of the 92H?
Our good friend Andrei at Griffin Models has been working hard to reproduce these brilliant Saab camper vans in model form. Each of these models were designed from scratch, mainly from a few pictures he had found on the Internet and thats including the interior. This week he is happy to announce the 1:43rd scale kits are ready for you to buy, so you can now add them to your “little Saab” collections.
Saab is in a state of limbo at the present time and finding information other then what you see posted on Saabs United is more difficult then doing one handed push ups. Personally, besides the email contacts that I have and the friends that are plugged into the process in different parts of the world, I search google every morning and afternoon and read every little piece of anything I can find.
One of the best things in this day and age of the computer and more so the internet is social media and how it keeps us connected. I know some people don’t like applications like Facebook, if memory serves me correct even Red J here has yet to become a part of the Facebook generation. For me personally, it keeps me connected and helps me to see a bigger than me picture of Saab and the people that still love what it means to be Saab.
At IntSaab2012 SaabsUnited had a limited edition Polo Shirt for sale. They were very well received and I’m happy to say we have a few left. Only medium, larger and extra large are left and will cost €20 each (inc postage within europe) I will give the polo shirt article number 10016 for the shop. please email [email protected] if you fancy one.
Most of us have encountered people that shake their heads at us when we get started in talking about Saab’s and why we love them. People think we’re a little, I don’t know, crazy. They don’t see why we are so passionate about a brand that has had so many struggles, yet they themselves have most likely never driven a Saab nor have they ever been a part of a community that is so welcoming to everyone, where it matters not if you are driving a brand new 9-3 or an older 900.
I have had the pleasure of meeting so many people through Saab and I have never seen a group of car owners like this. I have in 16 years in the car business, worked for three brands. In my days working in a GM store, for the most part the customers were a revolving door and we very rarely had long term customers. When I came to work for Saturn, we had a ton of repeat price point customers who loved us but their car was mainly just a mode of transportation. Now with Saab, yes there have been issues with sales and of coarse the bankruptcy but the customer and fan smile when talking of their car and they are often eager to show me what they have done or added.
With not a lot of news coming lately as we wait for the deal to be completed somewhere in the middle of next month, I have found myself starved for everything Saab. I am constantly searching Facebook for different groups to see what they are up to.
In one of my last posts, I had mentioned the Saab Club of San Diego. I have been following this club for a while now and they are very active online and through that, I have seen they interact quite well with Saab Club of LA which is another very active club on Facebook.
One of the members of they LA Club said to me that she would like to see a thread or post on Saab tattoos. I know I had seen a thread at one point on Saab Central on Saab tattoos. Probably the most popular Saab tattoo is the one below of the Griffin head.
I have seen this one on arms, legs, backs, basically everywhere. Very classic if you ask me and looks good even in just the black outline. Of coarse tattoos are not just for the guys and Dayna from the Saab Club of LA has one of her own. What’s a little pain for something you love?
How many other Saab Girls are out there? How many of you out there have Saab tattoos? Maybe you have the Phoenix, maybe the Griffin, whatever it is we’d like to see them.
To the many of you like Dayna that wear their heart on their chest, their back, their shoulder or forearm, I salute you and your dedication. If you have some Saab tattoos you would like to share with us, email them to me at [email protected] and I will do a follow up post to this one.
Too good of a fathers day story not to share and on so many levels. To be a Father you will understand that the love of your children or grand children is much stronger then that of your love for your Saab, so when your child or grandchild embraces your weird Saab love, it’s even that much better.
The email below is from “saabyurk” and is about a gift from his granddaughter and also touches on our community and being united as friends. Happy Fathers Day to all of you fathers like myself out there, have a great day with your families.
Hi Crew, I thought you guys might get a kick out of my Father’s Day gift from my granddaughter. Back in July, 2011 I read about Ryan and Caroline’s cross country trip with their newly purchased vintage Saab 900 convertible. I contacted them and decided to meet them in Mayfield, Ohio on their way through. See “Ryan and Ted Y” Also, in the picture above that, you see my 2004, merlot 9-3. Anyway, I told my granddaughter I was meeting up with someone I met on Saabsunited (a mistake on my part). Anyway, she thought it was crazy to meet strangers that way, especially for me, a loner with very few friends.
Well, I guess she remembered that day, and today, I received a hand-made gift from her. See the attached photos. It’s the second photo you might get a kick out of. The blue print reads “SAAB united [sic] where strangers meet strangers!” (and apparently aliens).
Seems she was right, but it’s amazing how so many strangers sharing common goals and interests can be so united as friends. You might have figured by now, my granddaughter knows I like SAABs. She’s expecting me to restore a pink old 96 for her when she’s 16. 🙂
Thank you so much for sharing, this truly made my night.
