SOC GB “Golden Flag” Relay Gets Going

Just over a week ago I mentioned that there was going to be a special Golden Flag relay around the country to celebrate The Saab Owners Club of Great Britain’s Golden Jubilee.

Well today was the start and members of the East Sussex branch met up with members from the South West Branch to hand over the flag.

It was a pleasant day with sun shining and warm tempatures.

The next exchange will be at Swedish Day next Sunday.

The SOC of GB Celebrates 50 years

soc50image001The Saab Owners Club of Great Britain Celebrates 50 years.

This year the Saab Owners Club of Great Britain celebrate 50 Golden years, quite an achievement by any club standards, and to mark this momentous occasion have planned some great celebratory events throughout the country.

The SOC are going right back to where it all began “Ye Olde Cheshire Cheese” Fleet St London, a pub, where around sixty Saab owners got together to form the club with the help of a very young Saab GB and associated dealers.

Various tours have been organised throughout the country for the club members, taking in some of the most breath taking scenery the UK has to offer, even a visit to the real Hogwarts castle is planned, although I don’t think there will be any flying Saabs over head!

With this years International Saab club gathering also being held in the UK, the Saab Owners Club of Great Britain are going to celebrate in style!

SAAB Owners Convention 2012

We have received our first email from the Saab Owners Convention in Iowa City today from none other then Peter Gilbert. Funny, I was thinking my Vancouver weather was hot and it’s only been 27C to maybe 30C. Sounds like beautiful weather for a great event.

Greetings from Iowa It’s over 40C and we have a pretty decent turnout with a few NG 95s. Being a neighboring state of Wisconsin we have one of our biggest turnouts of from the Milwaukee area and Saturday there will be a large local turnout from Iowa City because of Meyer Saab which has many loyal customers.
Here’s a little video I found too. This looks like the place to be in North America, really wish I had the ability to be there. Since I can’t, I really hope people like Peter or Mark or any of you that may be attending can shower me with photos and video feeds on Youtube.

If any of you are near Birmingham on Sunday (13.11.11) and fancy looking at a few hundred classic cars then head over to the NEC to this years Classic Car Show.

The Saab Owners Club of Great Britain are there and once again Ellie Wilson has put together a great stand.

I have put a few pictures on my flickr page if you want to take a look.

Blast from the past for Cambridge Saab

Local UK car dealership, Cambridge Saab, recently played host to the national Annual General Meeting of the Saab Owners Club of Great Britain and unearthed a great heritage story in the process.

The meeting, which took place on Saturday 29th October at the Buckingham & Stanley site on High Street in Harston, Cambridge, was attended by upwards of 50 members of the Saab Owners Club from all over the UK.

A great surprise for Dealer Principal, James Howarth, and his team at the event was to meet a member who had bought his first Saab from the dealership (formerly known as Wightman’s Garage) in 1968, just a few months after the site opened for business.
